Dog Training Class Descriptions

Paw Icon  Puppy Pre-School - $170 (7 weeks)

This program is designed for puppies 12 weeks of age to 5 months. The ideal time to start training is before bad habits are formed, and when dogs are more receptive to learning new and different things. With the help of our socialization exercises, obstacle course, basic obedience exercises and training games, puppies learn to be friendly, well mannered members of your family. Preventive health advice and common puppy behaviors are also discussed during each session.

Class size is limited, with all household members encouraged to attend classes for the 7 weeks of training. Puppy Pre-School is an investment that will surely be rewarded with years of companionship with your special pet. First week is orientation and registration without the dog, then the puppy is present for the remaining 6 weeks.

Paw Icon  Surviving Puppyhood including Operation Socialization - $130 (6 weeks)

Our puppy class is perfect for puppies who, at the start of the class, are ages 8 weeks through 5 1/2 months, and consists of an online video orientation and 6 weeks of group classes (approximately 45 minutes-1 hour each week).

This age is when the socialization period is critical.  Our program integrates Operation Socialization to help you breeze through this developmental stage with ease.

Puppies grow up fast!  You want to get started right away on teaching the basics- sit, down, come, settle, stay, leave it, and loose leash walking.  We also will discuss typical puppy behaviors and solutions to house training, puppy biting, handling, grooming, resource guarding, and discuss appropriate play skills.

The earlier you get started, the better! The more time that goes by allows your puppy to practice habits that you may not be fond of.

Paw Icon  Basic Real World Manners - $130 (6 weeks)

Our Basic Real World Manners is perfect for dogs 6 months and up and consists of an online video orientation and 6 weeks of group classes (approx 45 minutes each week).

You want to get started right away on teaching the basics: sit, down, come, settle, stay, leave it, loose leash walking, anti-jumping, wait and polite greetings.  If your pup already has the basics of these skills from a trainer or training class, we will build on these skills, add distractions and fine tune their skills. We also will discuss typical problem behaviors and solutions and work on fading out the food rewards.

After class, you will be able to:

  • Confidently handle your dog meeting strangers and fellow canines;
  • Prepare and enjoy meals without the dog underfoot;
  • Receive visitors who marvel at your dog’s good behavior;
  • Take peaceful, uneventful walks through your neighborhood or park;
  • Enjoy your dog’s company on errands or taking a break at the coffee shop;
  • Work from home, read email, or enjoy a movie uninterrupted!

The earlier you get started, the better!  The more time that goes by allows your puppy to practice habits that you may not be fond of.

Paw Icon  Family Companion Class - $170 (7 weeks)

This program is designed for the adolescent dog 5 months to 2-3 years of age, however any age dog may attend. Although a portion of our classes are set aside for traditional obedience training, what makes this program unique is the way we apply these exercises to practical household use. With fun and innovative lessons, we teach you to make the most of our classes while your dog is at home with your family. Problem behaviors commonly encountered with dogs of this age are also addressed.

We cover such exercises as:

  • how to get your dog’s attention
  • the “sit stay” & and “the down stay”
  • coming when called, each week adding time & and distance.
  • polite leash walking, as the dogs learns to focus on their handlers instead of the distractions in the environment
  • a greeting routine, to help prevent jumping on incoming guests
  • the “wait” command for better control around doorways, stairs and while crossing the street

It is the ideal class for establishing good manners and building a positive relationship with the family pet. The program runs a total of 7 weeks. Although the class size is limited, there is no limit on the amount of household members that attend. Paw Icon  Graduate Family Companion Class- $170 (7 weeks)

AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep Class

This program is designed for dogs that have successfully completed our Family Companion Class or a similar approved program. The purpose of this class is to ensure that your dog is a respected member of the community who is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the home, in public places and also in the presence of other dogs. During this class we will prepare your dog to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, which is periodically offered at different locations in WNY. Class exercises will focus on accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, appearance & grooming, walking on a loose lead, walking through a crowd, sit, down & stay, coming when called, reaction to another dog, reaction to distraction,and supervised isolation. This program is 7 weeks in length, approximately one hour each week.

Paw Icon  AKC Canine Good Citizen - $150 (6 weeks)

The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen program is the gold standard of behavior for dogs in our communities. Almost one million dogs, both purebred and mixed breed, have participated in the program since it began in 1989.

As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you’ll discover the many benefits and joys of training. You’ll enhance your bond with your dog, and dogs with basic obedience training are a joy to live with—interacting well with other people and dogs and responding well to household routines.

The CGC program offers many practical advantages too. The CGC award is a prerequisite for many therapy dog groups. Some homeowner’s insurance companies encourage CGC testing, and an increasing number of apartments and condos require that resident dogs pass the CGC test. The tagline of the CGC program is, “Responsible Owners, Well-Mannered Dogs,” and that is what CGC is all about.

The course is 6 weeks in length for 45 minutes each week. We will focus on the 10 items on the Canine Good Citizen test (see link below), but we find that many people that take this course are not looking to pass the test, but are just looking for a more advanced dog class. Either way, this course will meet the needs of the owner and dog that already have a good foundation and are looking for a challenge and to take their training to the next level.

AKC Canine Good Citizen 10 test items

Paw Icon  AKC Community Canine - $150 (6 weeks)

AKC Community Canine is the advanced level of AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. As with CGC, AKC Community Canine has a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Community Canine title. This is a title that appears on the dog's title record at AKC.

While CGC tests are simulations of real world skills, the goal of the AKC CGC is to test the dog's skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being tested in a ring, in the AKC CGC, the "walks through a crowd" test item will involve the dog walking through a real crowd at a dog show, on a busy sidewalk, in a therapy dog setting, or at a training club. We will be practicing and improving your skills, whatever level you are at to achieve these goals.

Paw Icon  AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen - $200  (6 weeks)

Urban CGC

AKC Urban CGC is a title in the Canine Good Citizen family of awards and titles. AKC Urban CGC requires that the dog demonstrate CGC skills and beyond in an urban setting. As with CGC, AKC Urban CGC has a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Urban CGC title. This is a title that appears on the dog’s title record at AKC.Each week will be at a new public location. Once you register you will receive an email informing you where each weeks lesson will be!
